One image rarely fits every Facebook placement

A single Facebook campaign can show your ad in the feed, in Stories, in Reels, on Marketplace and in the right column. Those placements use different shapes, and when you supply only one image Ads Manager crops it to fit. That is how headlines lose their first word and products lose their edges.

Supplying a version for each shape keeps that decision in your hands. AdResize makes all four from the creative you already have.

Which size goes where on Facebook

Facebook placements and the format to upload for each
PlacementUpload this formatGood to know
FeedFeed 4:5 (1080 × 1350)The tallest shape the feed shows, so it takes the most screen. Square 1:1 also works.
StoriesStories & Reels 9:16 (1080 × 1920)Full screen. Keep text away from the top and bottom edges.
ReelsStories & Reels 9:16 (1080 × 1920)Full screen, with the caption and buttons over the lower part.
MarketplaceSquare 1:1 (1080 × 1080)Shown in a grid of listings, where square images sit naturally.
Right columnSquare 1:1 (1080 × 1080)Desktop only and displayed small, so favour simple creatives.
Link previews and landscape placementsLandscape 1.91:1 (1200 × 628)The classic link-ad shape, and the widest image the feed accepts.

Getting a clean result

  • Pick the mode by what is near the edges

If your headline, price or logo sits close to an edge, use Fit or Background so nothing is cut off. If the subject is centred with room around it, Crop fills the frame and looks the most native.

  • Leave room at the top and bottom of 9:16

Facebook draws your profile name over the top of a Story or Reel and the caption and call-to-action over the bottom. Meta's guidance is to keep roughly the top 14% and bottom 35% free of text and logos.

  • Upload JPG or PNG to Ads Manager

Those are the image types Meta accepts for ads. AdResize exports JPG for photos and PNG for graphics and logos, so the files are ready to upload as they are.

Your images stay on your device.

Creatives are processed directly in your browser and aren't uploaded to our servers. There is no account, no image storage and nothing to delete afterwards. Close the tab and they are gone.

Questions

What is the best image size for Facebook feed ads?

A 4:5 portrait at 1080 × 1350 pixels or larger. It fills more of the screen than a square or landscape image, which is why Meta recommends it for the feed.

Can I use the same image for Facebook Stories and Reels?

Yes. Both are 9:16 full-screen placements, so one 1080 × 1920 file covers them. Check that nothing important sits under the interface at the top and bottom.

Will resizing reduce the quality of my ad?

Scaling down keeps the image sharp. Scaling up cannot add detail, so start from a creative at least 1080 pixels wide.
